After the release of his debut LP “Halal Chinese Food” at the top of the year, Brooklyn emcee Ockz returns with a free project for the fans, “The Stuyvesant Chronicles”, released today, September 1, exclusively on AllHipHop.com. The new concept mixtape finds Ockz flying in a dope ensemble of indie artists to lend their specialities over some familiar, jazzy samples. It was clear that he’s no newcomer to the game when he leaked the recent singles and videos for “Nautilus” with Fred The Godson and “Cops & Taxis”, with a cameo from the tape’s talented co-executive producer, Raki. People just catching on to Ockz will appreciate his latest leak for its timeliness with the #BlackLivesMatter movement – “Rise Up” is a strong dose of Hip-Hop featuring lyrical powerhouses Skyzoo and Quadir Lateef. Download “The Stuyvesant Chronicles” for free below, and check out the single and tracklist, too: The planet of Brooklyn has spawned some of the most talented and prolific hip hop artists in history. From East New York to Brooklyn Heights the borough is notoriously thorough when it comes to spawning the best that rap has to offer. Ockz is the latest wordsmith to come from the hallowed ground of Bed Stuy Brooklyn to stake claim to his spot in the rich hip hop legacy of his neighborhood. Somewhat of a nefarious character, Ockz has been known to have affiliations all over the map from the East Side of Detroit to the West Side of Baltimore. When it comes to the music he deftly weaves tales of street life and redemption over neck breaking soulful production. The music is a throwback sound reminiscent of a modern day Kool G Rap delivered by a rich, deep baritone voice that cuts through the track and makes you listen. Ockz lyrical ability is apparent from the first to the last bar as people find themselves discovering new layers to his lyrics and discovering the subtle nuances to his narratives. Ockz is no amateur on the mic having worked with heavyweights like Philly Freeway on the song ‘Straight Path’ and Beanie Sigel on CIGM’s ‘Block Away’. A Muslim by birth, Ockz’s religion is a big influence on his music as he tells the story of a man surviving in the street life as he strives every day to be on the straight path.
